My mom was happy when we were happy,
whether shopping, "surprising" us by singing
Happy Birthday with a birthday cake
filled with lit candles,
or dancing with my friends at my teenage parties...
And she even liked my music! To this day, I miss her...
My dad loved his girls and truly enjoyed spending time with us.
He was our mentor and teacher,
and extremely proud of who we were.
Our daddy/daughter dates taught us a great deal, especially how much he loved chocolate ice cream... It's interesting to see that he left a big part
of himself in each one of his daughters
and grandchildren.
And you know what? We love that!
My Grandma loved her family, and when her oldest daughter (she had three) became a widow at a young age, she moved in and took care of her grandchildren while my aunt worked.
She did all the cooking. I was young when she passed and don't remember much, but I do remember
she loved us, and her pirogen was the best!
I met my very first love when I was just 14 years old while vacationing with a close friend and her family. He was the most romantic person I had ever known as he would frequently serenade me
with Johnny Mathis love songs.
One night, several years later, while leaving
a Johnny Mathis concert – coincidentally with that same friend – she poked me!
I looked up and there he was.
Neither his date nor mine kept those
violins from playing as we just stood there,
looking at each other…
There’s nothing like a hug –
it’s like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day.
I’m all caught up now, having finally hugged each
of my kids and grandchildren –
although I admit I can’t wait for more…
What about you?
Have you received your long overdue hugs?
Love is different for each relationship in your life. There’s the love of your parents, siblings, spouse, children, and even your friends.
Each one is deep, but unique.
The same holds true for your pets.
You love your dog without reservation,
from your toes. And they love you back.
Ain’t love grand...
Legacies. The dictionary describes a legacy as anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor. This is not for us, as we all live them, but for the generations to follow. They missed out on knowing him, I hope they don’t miss out on the legacies he left us.
So here’s where legacies begin. They begin with words of wisdom, and in our case, followed by
“You know what? I love you…”
Not all heroes wear capes…
We all have at least one unsung hero in our lives, and because of them,
we are where we’re supposed to be.
They say that everyone
is brought into our lives for a reason,
and if we don’t see it at the time, we will later on.
I know all the reasons now, and I’m forever grateful.
The elegance of a fresh snowfall,
Christmas lights reflecting in the pools of wet snow, with its music filling the air,
people rushing around carrying bags filled with gifts for their families and loved ones.
Hot chocolate with marshmallows,
watching movies with the family,
and eating leftovers…
It’s a wonderful time of year,
where we’re allowed to be sentimental.
What conjures up your heartfelt memories?
I remember my wedding day as if it were yesterday.
I remember dancing the daddy/daughter dance, with tears and a smile all at the same time.
I remember that I would now have a husband
to walk beside me, and a new last name.
Weddings are magical.
They are what dreams are made of.
And love?
“For it was not into my ear you whispered,
but into my heart.
It was not my lips you kissed,
but my soul…
Being a parent.
The only thing that comes with that little package
is the unconditional love you feel instantly from
the second you set eyes on them.
When they’re doing well, we’re doing well.
When your child suffers, you feel their pain.
But then when they’re happy, or proud,
we puff up with pride and say
"That's my kid!".

What better gift than a Picture This Photo Book of Grandma’s recipes for everyone?
Keeping Grandma’s memory alive through the generations, as well as her delicious food.
Grandma’s meatballs, Grandma’s amazing cookies, or Grandma’s special mac and cheese.
Imagine those smells coming from your kitchen.
Her secret ingredient? She mixes it all with love…
How different would your grandchildren look at you
if they knew you were a war hero?
Or had won dance contests,
or a pie eating contest?
No one can tell your story like you can.
And that’s what keeps a legacy book
moving from generation to generation.
Your story, told by you, as no one else can…
The venue is dark, the guests have left, and the music has stopped. What’s left from all that planning, with all the laughter and tears?
If you guessed your photos, you’d be correct!
Turn the pages at your leisure, and show your children as they grow up, curious to see Mommy as
a bride, giggling at seeing Grandma and Grandpa dancing, with Grandma’s eyes closed as she dances in Grandpa’s arms.
Your phone can’t tell your story like my photo book can.
